Mi Nidito has been serving Tucson since 1952. It all began when a couple from Sonora moved here and faced the decision of opening a restaurant or opening a tortilla factory. These two people were Ernesto and Alicia Lopez. They decided to go with he restaurant and that decision is still affecting the lives of their family three generations later. Ernest Lopez Jr. and wife Yolanda now own the restaurant and have the help of their two sons Jimmy and Ernie III in running the business.

The restaurant was first opened on the corner of 4th Avenue and 29th street in historic South Tucson, and there it remains. Mi Nidito first got it’s catchy name from its small size, meaning, “little nest”. Since its first opening however it has undergone a number of renovations creating a larger space for patrons, but still holds the cozy family quality that had been there from the start.

This restaurant features authentic Sonoran home cooking that people travel far distances to experience the traditional homemade quality for. Some of its most signature dishes are:  Chile Relleno, Flautas, Birria (shredded beef). Chimichangas, and enchiladas. Because of the excellent ambiance, service, and food, Mi Nidito was voted by Hispanic Magazine as one of the nations top Hispanic restaurants and has also won numerous awards in the past.

Mi Nidito has gained recognition from the numerous amount of distinguished guests it has seen over the yeas. The biggest was Bill Clinton’s appearance on February 25th 1999. He commemorated his visit by having a menu item named after him in his honor, called “The President’s Plate” which has become one of their most poplar menu items.

Clearly Mi Nidito has much to offer new as well as returning guests, so when visiting the Old West don’t forget to stop by!
